😶 DROUGHT 😶

 😶 DROUGHT 😶

Drought is the second most common disaster in Sri Lanka. In 2003 and 2004 Sri Lanka was hit by a Drought. This severely affected about seven districts in the South, East and North Centrl provinces. More than 230,000 families were affected. 477  milion to be allocated for these people.
Drought is the inadequacy of water relative to needs. Drought can last for months or even years. A natural drought accurs when rainfall is less than expected. For example in december 2003, Sri Lanka recorded the lowest rainfall in 125 years. But overuse of available water resources and deforestation can also lead to drought. Drought is offen unpredictable and little can be said about declining rainfall. However consuming water wisely and avavoiding deforestation is one possible strategy for this.
